Climbing, yoga and fitness

This isn’t just a rock gym. This is where fears are faced and falling means you’re learning. Where calluses are celebrated, chalk is part of the uniform, and routes are never the same. This is where people come to find their zen, get a grip, hang out, and go boulder. Because rocks were made to climb, bodies were made to move, and we’re all due for a little more adventure.

Lorant

Sharing some great photos from one of our pink boulder problems and introducing Lorant. Lorant started climbing early in life and was on his university climbing team, and still going strong after 30 years.

When asked if there is anything special about climbing at Rock Haven, Lorant had some kind words to say, sharing that the facility is modern, with big and clean bathrooms and changing rooms; staff are friendly and ready to help. The routes are by far his favorites, including the best comp style routes set in Portland. “Thanks to Ben and team, the routes are meant to be solved, not just climbed”.

What is Lorant’s fav outdoor spot? The Gunks in upstate New York, and the horizontal cracks and quartz conglomerate found there.

We asked if there’s anything else to share with our followers, and that is that Lorant is a proud parent of a competitive climber. Sounds like it runs in the family!

Joseph

Joseph is a long time Rock Haven employee who loves climbing and helping people out whenever needed. Whether he’s on the clock or not, he’ll always be up to help you work out a route!

When asked about his experience with climbing and Rock Haven, Joseph said: “I became a rock climber the second week of Rock Haven being open,” and that “I really enjoyed being exposed to the Rock Haven climbing community and getting to meet people that I have a lot of common interests with.”

Joseph enjoys climbing inside and outside. His favorite outdoor spots include Empire and The Garden. He likes that you can “get away from the city and get to chill in the forest.”

Joseph is a perfect example of the values we hold here at Rock Haven: community is super important and climbing is all about supporting others, having fun, and making meaningful connections!
