In the interests of providing continuing education to the Rock Haven team, in September our routesetters attended the Setter Summit in Salt Lake City, UT. The Summit is a two-day clinic on routesetting co-hosted by The Front Climbing Gym and the Climbing Wall Association, and led by a USA Climbing Level 5 routesetter. 

Our team had the opportunity to network with setters from all over the US and Canada, learn about recent innovations in commercial setting, and visit several gyms and a hold pouring company in SLC, which is an important climbing hub in the US and the world. We’re excited to see some of the ideas they’ve brought back!

Bouldering 101 is the class for you. For just $39 you will learn basic bouldering skills & techniques, get oriented to all the amenities that Rock Haven has to offer, and meet fellow members. Note that starting in November this is a single session, still packed with all the good tips. Classes are on Wed evenings currently, with additional evenings and a possible weekend session in store.

Grab a Bingo card at the front desk and get squares initialed by staff after doing fun stuff like finding Moritz, or a golden egg; doing a dyno or signing up for a class you've never done before. Once you have one or more rows filled in, drop off your card at the front desk to be entered in weekly drawings. Prizes include gear and apparel, plus there's a month-end drawing for a secret and awesome grand prize!

The Ladies Climbing Coalition is a group that hosts meetups in gyms and crags in the United States and abroad, providing a safe and inviting space to connect with others and enjoy climbing. Inclusivity and accessibility for all are our primary objectives.

Come join us at Rock Haven Climbing on Friday October 18 from 6pm to 8pm for Adaptive Climbing Night with 3x Para Athlete Daryl Walker. He and other coaches will help lead individuals with various disabilities in the sport of Bouldering. Each person with a disability will learn proper technique through audio aid and physical touch in order to help the climber complete each problem (route) on the wall, while also having a joyful experience climbing in a safe and supportive environment.

Daryl is a dedicated staff member at Rock Haven, and you'll find him doing many things in the gym on a given day. He has a friendly greeting for you when you check in and you'll often finding him teaching one of our classes.

Daryl has been climbing for about a year and a half, and a highlight of working at Rock Haven for him has been teaching HIIT, yoga and Youth Bouldering Classes.

Daryl's favorite outdoor spots are Ramona Falls for hiking, plus Empire for climbing.
