New to Climbing?
No experience needed and our gym is a great place to get started climbing. Take a class or ask our staff questions, we are always here to help!
Bouldering is rock climbing on walls (or boulders) without ropes or harnesses. Our walls average 13.5 feet in height and are surrounded by specialty flooring for safer falls. You can boulder with friends or on your own, you just need comfortable clothes and climbing shoes, chalk optional.
Climbing shoes are required for climbing at Rock Haven; we have these to rent or buy. Chalk is optional and will improve your grip. Also plan to wear clothes you can move in- shorts, tee, leggings or comfy jeans are all OK.
Our boulder problems follow a color scale and to make it easier to get started, ours follows the rainbow or ROYGBIV. Black and white are the advanced level problems. Each color is a range of three difficulties on the standard V scale often used, meant to encourage trying new colors and having a little less focus on the numbers. See us in the gym for more info.
Chalk is used in climbing to keep your hands drier and help you grips the climbing holds better. It is optional so if you don’t want to start out using chalk, that’s fine too. Chalk is included in our rental package and several kinds are available to buy in our retail space. We have cool chalk bags too!
Yes you can! Bouldering is the perfect sport because you can climb with friends or some people you just met in the gym, or, if you’re feeling like being on your own for a bit, pick a spot and climb away. You do not need a belay partner or spotter to have a great day in the gym.
With any kind of new sport or exercise routine, consider your current physical fitness and any health issues. You may also want to talk to your doctor before starting bouldering or any new exercise.
